The 2021 Volvo S60 Invites Adventure and Luxury

The 2021 Volvo S60 faces stiff competition from Mercedes-Benz C-Class, BMW 3 series, Acura TLX, and Audi A4. Volvo, known for its impeccable safety features, made the car competitive by increasing the list of safety and driver-assist features. Even better, it comes at an appealing price, way lower than the German cars. It comes in a choice of three powertrains and concentrates on safety and efficiency. Engine and Performance

Volvo offers three engine options. All these engines pair with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

  • The standard engine is a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline. Volvo named this the T5. It generates 250 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. This engine is also efficient with an EPA city/highway fuel economy of 23/34 mpg. It is only available in front-wheel drive.
  • The next engine is a T6, which comes as either a turbocharged or supercharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, generating 316 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. EPA estimates the engine to offer 21 mpg city and 32 mpg highway driving fuel economy. This is only available on the AWD S60.
  • Its third engine is the T8, which is only available in the AWD S60. It is a Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle, otherwise known as PHEV, that has an engine with a li-ion battery pack and a rear-mounted motor. It generates 400 horsepower and can drive up to 22 miles on electricity. This engine offers 69 MPG fuel economy for highway driving in Puyallup.

Trims

There are three trim levels. The base trim is the Momentum, which offers Sensus multifunction screen, leatherette upholstery, 18-inch alloy wheels, city safety crash avoidance, and a panoramic sunroof.

R-Design is the middle trim with a lowered sport chassis, navigation system, sport seats, hands-free trunk, and 4-zone climate control. The Inscription model is the highest trim level, and it offers Driftwood inlays, a unique Inscription grille, leather upholstery, and comfortable seat padding.

Interior and Exterior Features

The 2021 Volvo S60 offers an uncluttered cabin. There are large analog gauges with a vertical 9-inch Sensus infotainment screen occupying the largest part of the center stack. From the screen, you can manage a host of vehicle functions, including ESC Sport mode, Cruise Control, and Active Bending Lights, when you swipe the screen. If you swipe the screen on the opposite side, you get features such as Spotify and Pandora to enjoy your ride in Federal Way.

Front and rear seats are heavily bolstered and comfortable. They are available in good quality leatherette in the base trim and premium leather in higher trims. Inside, this Swedish car looks luxurious. Volvo added two USB-C ports on the rear-seats to replace the previous 12-volt outlet.

The long hood, short rear deck, and sloping roofline make the car appear sleek. Its headlights assume a T-shape, while the taillights make the car look wider than it is. There is a big badge in the middle of the car's grille. The new model comes with additional features such as retractable side mirrors, LED foglights, and larger 18-inch wheels. There are optional 19-inch wheels.
